Photo: Stephanie Ray Williams and Da’Von Doane, Dialogues, April 2017. Lincoln Center Out of Doors will feature Dance Theatre of Harlem Saturday at 7:30 pm at the Damrosch Park Bandshell next to the Metropolitan Opera House. I’ve always enjoyed DTH during their City Center seasons with interesting rep danced with great energy. Check out my DTH reviews and photos from 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, and 2014.
Also performing will be ALA.NI, a London-born, Paris-based singer-songwriter, who “…brings the spirit of Billie Holiday and Judy Garland to her intimate songs.” The event is free but get there early to get a seat.
The festival features musical acts that I’m generally not familiar with and the bands can be hit or miss. The first week of Out of Doors has been great fun with great performances from Soul Science Lab on Saturday Family Day at Hearst Plaza; KIOSK, an underground rock band from Iran that emerged in the early 2000s; and psych-rock, guitar dominated sounds from Jonathan Wilson Sunday night.
