Busy week in the ballet competition world, with events from the Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition and Youth America Grand Prix in New York City. The Youth America Grand Prix competition will take place tomorrow through Friday at the Skirball Center at NYU and BAM, with the Gala performance Friday at BAM.
The Valentina Kozlova competition runs from Tuesday through Friday, with the awards ceremony and Gala Performance on Saturday, all at Symphony Space at 95th and Broadway.
I’ve enjoyed competitions over the years. I remember Isaac Hernández at age 13 (I think) performing a solo from Don Quixote at the Youth America Grand Prix over 10 years ago. WOW, he was great, even at such a young age. Also, Sarah Lamb when she was at Boston Ballet. They are stars now, with Isaac at Dutch National Ballet and English Ballet and Sarah at The Royal Ballet. Who knows what future stars will be competing next week.
