Above Photo: Sara Mearns and Tyler Angle, Allegro Brillante, January 19, 2017-Swan Lake opens New York City Ballet’s fall season Tuesday. NYCB will perform the work in 13 of the 28 performances in the season. Although I’m not a fan of Peter Martin’s work (see comments in my previous post) there are some compelling debuts that will make the run interesting. Megan Fairchild and Tiler Peck will have their NYCB debuts as Odette/Odile and Zachary Catazaro, Gonzalo Garcia, and Chase Finlay will debut as Prince Siegfried. For Zachary, his debut is long-awaited; he was scheduled to dance Prince Siegfried in 2015, but as he explained on Instagram, suffered a foot injury in dress rehearsal.
This is hard for me to have to realize but I will no longer be dancing this weekend in Swan Lake. I landed bad from a double cabriole in the third act of today's dress rehearsal and my foot rolled over very badly. This is the role I've been wanting to do ever since I first stepped into the studio many years ago. I will be back and it I will prevail. Thank you everyone who so kindly helped me today especially the fantastic talented strong men who carried me for 10 minutes. Your support is appreciated and won't be forgotten. Merde to @shyltin my former swan queen and @andiev1 for taking my spot. You guys will be great!
