Ballet Academy East (BAE) Student Company will perform Thursday through Saturday at the Ailey CitiGroup Theater with an innovative repertory. While most ballet school performances stick to standard classics, BAE will present four new works created specifically for the school.
The program will feature a new work by NYCB Principal Dancer Ashley Bouder (title forthcoming) set to Mozart’s ballet score Les petits riens. The work will have a cast of 13 dancers ranging from 12-15 years of age. Jenna Lavin, a former Miami City Ballet Soloist, will premier her work (S)EVEN, set to Schubert’s Piano Trio no. 2 in E flat major, Opus 100. Lavin will also premier a waltz Barcarolle for 14 dancers ranging from 10-12 years of age. Lavin, who teaches at the school, has created 18 ballets for BAE students over her 15 years at the school. Claudia Schreier will premier Charge, set to Piano Concerto: III by Dutch composer Douwe Eisenga.
Also on the bill is Balanchine’s Raymonda Variations staged by Darla Hoover, BAE’s Artistic Director and répétiteur for the Balanchine Trust.
Tickets are available online and at (212) 279-4200.
