Big changes at Pennsylvania Ballet. Artistic Director Angel Corella announced Monday that nearly 40% of dancers will be replaced for the 2016-2017 season according to Philly.com. It was the first time Corella has been allowed to reconsider contracts at the company. Out of 43 dancers, 12 were let go and five are leaving.
The dancers will be replaced from the apprentice program and from the outside. Newcomers include ABT’s Sterling Baca, a Corps member hired as a Principal Dancer and Nayara Lopes from Dance Theatre of Harlem, joining as a Corps member.
