Afternoon of a Faun director Nancy Buirski and New York City Ballet’s Janie Taylor will discuss the legacies of Balanchine and Tanaquil Le Clercq on Sunday, March 2 at 3:45 pm (following the 2:15 pm showing of the documentary) at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center at Lincoln Center. Janie will give her final performance March 1 and will dance in Afternoon of a Faun with her husband Sébastien Marcovici, who is also retiring. I loved the film which focuses on the life of Tanaquil, a Principal Dancer at New York City Ballet who contracted polio at the peak of her career. Here is my review.
Also, I received a comment from Linda asking whether the documentary will be available on DVD. I don’t have any information on DVD distribution, but the film will be shown at the following theaters.
