I’m excited about ABT’s new production of Sleeping Beauty by Alexei Ratmansky, which will debut at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Orange County, California in a little over a week, running from March 3-8.
The sets look spectacular in a YouTube video posted on Segerstrom’s Twitter feed that the center produced. The video presents Tony Award winning set and costume designer Richard Hudson, providing a peek into the process of creating the look. The designs in the video have Roman-style columns on the sides, framing the background of the countryside in the center.
Hudson says that he avoids using computers for the sets and costumes, instead designing models by hand. It’s a huge project, he says, with 300-400 individually tailored costumes.
