Here is a sweet New York Times article on Tiler Peck and Robert Fairchild, both New York City Ballet Principal Dancers that were married Saturday. They met in 2003 at the summer program at School of American Ballet (the school of New York City Ballet) when Robert was 15 and Tiler was 13 years of age.
The New York Times has another article on New York City Ballet dancers Ashley Laracey and Troy Schumacher who were married earlier in June.
Times have changed at the company with seven dancer couples married or engaged in the past decade. From Artistic Director Peter Martins:
““Balanchine typically avoided casting couples together because they usually ended up fighting,” said Peter Martins, the ballet master in chief of the company and the man who guided Ms. Peck and Mr. Fairchild in their transformation from young apprentices at the City Ballet to principals.
“Life has changed and now everyone is married to everyone else, and they all love to dance with their spouses,” Mr. Martins said, “particularly Tiler and Robbie, who always seem to bring out the best in each other, onstage and off.””
